Delphi Layover Tour

This 9-hour private tour takes you deep into central Greece, well beyond the usual Athens day-trip radius. Your driver-guide collects you and heads north through the mountains to the Monastery of Hosios Loukas, a UNESCO-listed Byzantine monastery known for its mosaics and its quiet, remote setting above the valley. From there, the route continues to Delphi, the legendary seat of the ancient oracle, where you explore the archaeological site — including the Temple of Apollo and the ancient theatre — and the adjoining museum, one of Greece’s finest collections of classical sculpture. The final stop is Arachova, a stone-built mountain town on the slopes of Parnassus, for a relaxed stroll through its narrow streets and shops before the drive back down to Athens.

Because of the distance involved and the full-day shape of this itinerary, this is not a tour to attempt on a short stopover. You’ll need a layover of at least 11 hours — or a long or overnight connection — to fit in the drive, all three stops, and the return to the airport without rushing. This trip suits travellers with a genuinely long window rather than a tight transit connection. A private, air-conditioned vehicle and an English-speaking driver-guide are included throughout, so the day runs at your own pace rather than a fixed group schedule, with stops that can flex a little depending on how the day is going. If your connection is shorter, a closer half-day trip is a better fit than trying to compress this route into a rushed itinerary.
